Venla Helenius

Four characters build a layered fiction for the camera. They are looking for lust, katharsis, emancipation. Sentimentum describes the layered desires generated by the imagination. The characters have the ability to imagine fantastic worlds where unbridled energy flows between and through tense bodies. The work depicts the characters' need to experience in their bodies the kind of ecstasy that can only be experienced in escapist fantasies.

Venla Helenius (b. 1989) is a Helsinki-based visual artist who works mainly with moving image and installation. Helenius holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts (2022) and a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University (2018). Helenius combines fictional and documentary narrative in her works.
