TIPPI

12. – 15.11.2026

TITANIK, Itäinen Rantakatu 8

TIPPI is an experimental short film by 4 FLOORS OF WHORES, created in collaboration with visual artists and filmmakers Venla Helenius and Anna-Sofia Nylund. The work is conceived as an overwriting of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 cult horror film The Birds.

Tippi lives alone on a windswept island in the outer archipelago. The bird attacks are a thing of the past, but Tippi remains haunted by their mysterious and disturbing aftermath. Echoing the protagonist of Hitchcock’s film, she spends her days obsessively sculpting a human-sized, harpy-like creature out of clay.

The work draws on feminist theorist Camille Paglia’s essay The Birds, in which Paglia interprets the bird attacks as both ecological revenge and erotic punishment, and sees the character of Melanie as a conduit for an uncontrollable and untamed force of nature. The film is also informed by the well-documented mistreatment of Tippi Hedren by Hitchcock during and after the production of The Birds.

TIPPI is an experimental film that explores the collision between nature, culture, and the female body. A haunting soundscape by composer Riku-Pekka Kellokoski and sound designer Johannes Birlinger merges with the film’s aesthetics of horror. The work reflects on contemporary anxiety, artistry and the (un)tamed nature of feminine power.

4 FLOORS OF WHORES is a theater collective from Helsinki consisting of actors/performers Emilia Jansson, Herman Nyby, Astrid Stenberg and sound designer Riku-Pekka Kellokoski. The group's aesthetic and working methods lie at the intersection (specifically the street corner) of physical theater, contemporary choreography, sound art and performance art. Moving between sensuality, care, humour and obscenity, their works approach the theatre as a testing ground for embodiment, desire and social conventions creating a space for unruly forms of togetherness, epic contemplation and carnal knowledge. 4 floors of whores

Venla Helenius is a visual artist working primarily with video and photography. Helenius works across the fields of experimental film, video art, and photography. Her practice also extends to multidisciplinary collaborations, where she works in the roles of video and photographic artist. Central to Helenius’s artistic practice are sensuality, intertextuality, and an interest in concepts that have remained contested, unstable, and contradictory throughout cultural history.

Anna-Sofia Nylund is a visual artist operating between video art, documentary and performance. Her practice explores observation, embodiment and the shifting boundaries between reality and fiction. Through performative and playful situations, she examines how we look at bodies, environments and one another. Her work is often creating encounters between documentary, fiction and the uncanny. annasofianylund.com
