Hatching out of something (by Monia & friends & the balls) is a video work, which was made to be a part of the solo demo process in the studies of Dance Art BA in Theatre Academy in the spring 2023. The video, the actual gym balls in the space, and the audience interacting with the video and the balls were all playing essential roles in the solo performance. The video work combines filming, documenting and interview with the elements of dance such as dynamicity, rhythm and playfulness. The objects (the balls) and their movement and actions give agency to non-human and connect with other topics such as gender, distraction, playing, rubber, oil, rolling, access, ADHD and ”being all over the place”. The ugly gym balls bring people together and facilitate space for reaching outside the institution and its conventional ways of perceiving dance, art and especially ”dance art”.
