In Pauliina Mäkelä and Topias Tiheäsalo's Kultapalmut, visual and audio dimensions combine to create a magical, contemporary magic lantern show. Live images and live sound are present simultaneously. The duo creates a kind of real-time film, expanded cinema. There is experimentation and chance, a dance of transience.
Mäkelä and Tiheäsalo use old analog technology. Images projected by overhead projectors and concrete reflections are accompanied by the sounds of electric guitars, transistor radios, and camera flashes. In their analog nature, Kultapalmut's performances are direct, concretely understandable experiences.
Mäkelä and Tiheäsalo live together in Turku. They work separately with images and sound. Mäkelä works with visual arts and illustration, and was awarded the Illustrator of the Year award in 2021. Tiheäsalo is a guitarist who focuses on improvised and experimental music and also produces music programs for Yle Radio 1.
